(MANCHESTER) – The Hillcrest Terrace Retirement Community has received a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council to present “Your Hit Parade: 25 Years Presenting America’s Top Popular Songs.” “Your Hit Parade: 25 Years Presenting America’s Top Popular Songs” will be presented on Thursday, July 15, at 3:00pm, in the Hillcrest Terrace Activity Room.

Calvin Knickerbocker will lead a public discussion on “Your Hit Parade.” Created in 1935, “Your Hit Parade” was a radio program that featured singers looking to break into the music industry. Later broadcast as a television show, “Your Hit Parade” filled American homes with music and joy every Saturday night until 1958. Calvin will guide us back in time and explain the impact of this program on the music of yesterday and today.

This program is free and open to the public.

Pearl Manor at Hillcrest Terrace Hosts Class from LNA Health Careers Clinical Program

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Pearl Manor at Hillcrest Terrace, an assisted living community in Manchester, NH, hosted its first LNA Health Careers clinical class from April 19th through May 19th, 2010.  Students from the LNA Health Careers program participate in 50 hours of classroom and lab and 60 hours of clinical where they are working right on the floor with residents.

According to Lee McCurley, RN, Director of Health Services at Pearl Manor, “we had the pleasure of working with a great instructor and a group of highly motivated students. The program benefits the residents and they have expressed their appreciation for the extra attention and care!  We are all looking forward to the next class and our continued relationship with LNA Health Careers.”

The instructor for the class, Mary Ellen Sanchez, LPN, said that “the experience for her and the students was very positive”.  The staff and residents of Pearl Manor offered a great deal of support and encouragement to the entire class.   In fact, the experience and training opportunities were so positive, that Pearl Manor and LNA Health Careers agreed to continue their relationship. Pearl Manor will host the clinical training for the next class starting at the end of May.

Haley Tentas, one of the students, especially liked the “one-on-one opportunities” to work with the assisted living residents, and found the “smaller environment to be friendlier and provide a good foundation for her training”.  Sacha Santa described her clinical training as an “unforgettable experience”.  All the students found the staff to be very helpful, and enjoyed working individually with the senior residents.  Many expressed a desire to stay in eldercare once they become licensed LNAs.

LNA Health Careers provides students with the necessary training to become licensed professionals.  Since 2003, LNA Health Careers has successfully graduated over 3,000 nursing assistants and is very proud of its 98% course pass rate and 99% state exam pass rate.  If you are interested in a career as an LNA please call 603-647-2174 or check the website at www.lnahealthcareers.com.
